Prevention of dental impairments

Preventing future problems with your dental health and oral hygiene is part of our treatment strategy.

Here you can find out more about your individual prophylactic options.

Prevention – how we help you

  • Caries prevention

  • Dental care during pregnancy

  • Young patients

  • Periodontitis prevention

Caries prevention

Carbohydrates in plaque, such as sugar, are metabolized by certain bacteria into acid. This attacks the tooth enamel and causes a gradual softening of the tooth's hard substance - caries. The tendency to this varies from person to person and depends on internal and external factors.
Our goal is to keep your teeth free of caries. Daily dental care and a balanced, low-sugar diet are just as much a part of caries prevention as regular professional teeth cleaning in our practice, usually every six months.

It is important for each patient to have an individual care concept, which we develop together with you and support you in its implementation.

During pregnancy

Due to hormonal changes, the condition of the gums may worsen during pregnancy (e.g. frequent bleeding gums) and the teeth may become more susceptible to tooth decay.

Inflammatory conditions are very detrimental to developing life. In order to avoid disadvantages due to a deficient oral situation, we would be happy to advise you and develop an individual prophylaxis plan for you.

The old myth “One child, one tooth” no longer applies!

Young patients – prevention instead of aftercare

We also welcome small and young patients, who should also come in for a check-up every six months with their baby teeth. Since the focus of our practice is on tooth preservation and sustainability, it is very important to us to include even the youngest children.
By staining the teeth, brushing training in our tooth-brushing room and regular prophylaxis appointments, children are introduced to proper dental hygiene and regular visits to the dentist in a playful, sensitive and age-appropriate way. In this way, many complications can be prevented at an early stage. Milk teeth are important for proper growth and development processes in the head area and are essential as placeholders for subsequent permanent teeth.
We advise parents on preventive examinations, proper tooth brushing, nutrition, fluoridation, etc.

Periodontitis prevention and therapy

Periodontitis is an inflammation of the periodontium that usually develops in adulthood. It is caused by tartar on the root surface and its colonization by certain bacteria. Both genetic and external factors (e.g. oral hygiene, smoking, diet) play a role.
Slightly reddened gums and bleeding gums when using dental floss are the first signs of this disease, which, if left untreated, can lead to bone loss and, in aggressive cases, even tooth loss. Periodontitis also has far-reaching effects on the entire organism and is directly linked to metabolic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
It is therefore important for us to identify signs of this disease as early as possible and to prevent its progression. Measures to do this include individual advice on risk factors, the implementation of more frequent prophylactic appointments and, in the case of manifest periodontitis, the implementation of a deep periodontal pocket cleaning under local anesthesia.
Further surgical measures may be indicated to reduce pocket depth.
According to the concept of Dr. Ronald Möbius MSc., bone loss can be stopped with the help of Doxy-Gel® applied regularly into the gum pockets.
